Scarves and stoles
I had the honor of serving as President of the First Unitarian Society of Westchester (FUSW) during the Service of Installation of the minister, the Rev. Peggy Clarke on March 25, 2012. (She is now the Senior Minister at the Community Church of New York). As part of the ceremony, it is traditional for the congregation to present the minister with a clerical stole, and I offered to make one for her. This blue stole with the doves of peace is the one I made.
But I was so excited to give it to her, that I went and made another stole. Rev. Peggy Clarke is a champion of food and environmental justice. Before beginning her ministry at FUSW, she was a founder of Intergenerate, a community garden and food justice organization in 2009. She also supported the development of a community garden at the First Unitarian Society. So, I thought a vegetable stole would be fitting for her. Plus, given all the red and green, it comes in handy for Christmas, too. |
